Happy Father’s Day

Jun 20th, 2010 Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off

For my daddy, who is responsible for my love of ridiculous poems.

Smart

My dad gave me one dollar bill

‘Cause I’m his smartest son,

And I swapped it for two shiny quarters

‘Cause two is more than one!

And then I took the quarters

And traded them to Lou

For three dimes—I guess he don’t know

That three is more than two!

Just then, along came old blind Bates

And just ‘cause he can’t see

He gave me four nickels for my three dimes,

And four is more than three!

And I took the nickels to Hiram Coombs

Down at the seed-feed store,

And the fool gave me five pennies for them,

And five is more than four!

And then I went and showed my dad,

And he got red in the cheeks

And closed his eyes and shook his head—

Too proud of me to speak!

I am in another book!  I didn’t really know any details about this one until I got a letter today saying it had been released!

I haven’t seen a copy yet, but browsing around at Amazon, I found this:

One of the pages from the table of contents.  That Pied Piper detail up there is my hat.

And there’s my name from the table of contents.

Cool huh?

No rose colored glasses for me.  Green.  Green faux abalone shell, to be more precise.

Classes

A little update to the pages.  I added a Classes section to that sidebar just to the right.  You can click on that to see a list of some of the classes I teach.  I also am very pleased to announce that I will be teaching a class at the International Textile Conference (aka Surface Design Association Conference) in June 2011!

Me again

I wasn’t ever quite satisfied with my stitched self portrait for the Stitch London exhibit.  I needed to finish a couple of little tiny things on it and I was doing a lot of procrastinating and not really excited about it.  I had a day off on Wednesday and so I started over.  This one I am very happy with.  I went with embroidery – longs and short stitch, chain stitch, couching, lazy daisy, chinese knots, a few beads & some handpainted lace…  All in shades of green, because that is my favorite color.  I will finish the other one eventually for some other something, but this one is on its way to London.

Your regularly scheduled Artwear of the Day post was pre-empted by the arrival of my new baby niece!  Amelia Jane arrived on Wednesday afternoon.  Everyone is doing great.  An embroidery project has already been started.

Artwear of the Day – Wednesday

Acid green shirt & brown skirt today aren’t particularly artsy, but I am wearing handmade jewelry.  The earrings are freshwater pearls with peridot drops made by my friend Greta.  The bracelet I made.  It is jade, turquoise & coral and is actually a necklace, but is just the right size to double up and wear as a bracelet, which I seem to do more often.

The Artwear Symposium starts for me today with artists arriving and classrooms getting set up and lots of paperwork.  So here is my artwear for the day: Space Shuttle Skirt!  Andy did the shuttle artwork & made the silk screen; we screened it on to my skirt; then I reverse appliqued the Earth and the moon and made a skirt.
