Secret Projects (almost)
July 5th, 2012 at 9:09 am

I have spent the last few weekends working on a wedding dress for my friend.  I can only show you a few little bits because it is not mine to show off. (Don’t worry, I will post photos after the wedding happens in a few weeks.)  Another friend and I split up the tasks.  She did amazing pattern alterations and fitting; we traded off on assembly and I did all the hand sewing.  We let the bride cut it out.

I can say we started pretty generally with this pattern:

But we changed the neckline, adjusted the length, added a center front seam…

I spent yesterday hemming the dress and the lining.  That is a 1 1/2 inch double fold hem on a curved edge.  It required lots of basting and copious amounts of steam.  I am pretty proud of myself. I was worried that it would be too bulky doing a double fold, but it looks just fine.

Hand picked zipper.

Why yes, it is green.  We went shopping with the bride for the very perfect shade of green (it’s a little lighter than it looks in these photos).  The dress is lightweight wool and the lining is silk.  Don’t worry, she is getting married in the mountains in Wyoming, so the wool (hopefully) makes sense.
