Hi, I’m Becka.
As an artist and teacher, I am a jack-of-all-trades. Rather than being a specialist, my specialty is being able to teach a beginning class in just about everything related to fiber art – felting, dyes, weaving, knitting, sewing, embroidery, beadwork, quilting. I love embroidery and hand-stitching best. My own work tends to be all over the map, because I am always influenced by a new class I am developing or technique I am researching.
My “day job” is as an arts administrator and teacher at a national center for fiber arts. I spend my day surrounded by every kind of textile art – knitting, sewing, surface design, embroidery and more other things than I can name. Like at every non-profit, I am there more hours than the official job description, but even so, I am lucky to be able to say I love my job. I am also known at work as the “techhie” – I design and maintain several websites and teach many classes on technology, aimed specifically at artists.
I live in Minneapolis and having grown up in the “country” near Rapid City, SD, I am totally in to being a city girl. I have a big blonde dog named Lucy Thunderpaw and a computer geeky husband and the three of us like to go on long walks in search of lattes. (Don’t worry, I don’t give coffee to the dog, she likes ice water.)
My favorite colors are green and orange. I am an avid reader, especially of mysteries, historical fiction and YA fantasy. I love jazz music and Japanese food.
I love comments. I love questions. Feel free to say hi!
