Do you want to be able to teach online classes or private lessons via Zoom, but the technology seems too intimidating? Don't know how to set it up or get started? Can't figure out how to make that second camera thing work? Learn strategies for setting up and using tools and equipment you already have (like your phone camera), tips for dealing with technology glitches, and essential tools that you can get on a budget.

Hand Embroidered Embellishments (HGA Conference)

Zoom/Online Event

This class is held as part of the Handweavers Guild of America Spinning and Weaving Week. Add hand embroidery to your handwovens! These stitches look complex, but are all built upon a simple chain stitch, like variations on a theme. Each one is perfect to use as borders, lettering, or to decorate a hem. We'll make samples to learn each of four stitches step-by-step. Bring some basic materials and stitch along in class, and you can rewatch the video later if you need a review!

Trailblazing an Art Business, Keynote

Weave Minnesota Conference

“Two roads diverged in a wood and I took the one less traveled by…” Becka talks about the secret power of saying YES, even when that unexplored path in front of you definitely has wolves and quicksand. She’ll share her journey of creating a full-time art business from nothing, the essential skills you must have in your travel pack and the unforeseen dangers on the road. Learn about how she quit her day job and found out how amazing and difficult it is to be her own boss and blaze the trail. Finally, she’ll share some tips for recognizing milestones on your path and finding some hiking companions along the way. This is the keynote address for the Weavers Federation Conference: https://weaveminnesota.com/

Embroidered Ledger Book (ArtWaves)

Zoom/Online Event

Students will make a pair of small notebooks with embroidered Kraftex paper covers. The notebooks are 3 x 5 inches each and stitched at the top to make a ledger style book. You will learn an embroidery stitch called the sorbello stitch to embellish the covers. Learn to tear down paper from larger sheets, a great skill for recycling paper to make more notebooks. A complete list of supplies will be emailed to you after you have signed up for the class. This class is part of the Artwaves Fall Online Conference. Register through the conference page.

Embroidered Circus Elephant (ArtWaves)

Zoom/Online Event

Instead of an old fashioned sampler, learn seven different embroidery stitches while you make a charming circus elephant. It’s a new twist on a beginning embroidery class. You will have fun stitching on wool felt with coloured threads and a few beads or sequins for sparkle. Stitches include back stitch, whip stitch, figure 8 knots, fly stitch, long stitch, wheat ear stitch, and running stitch. Your finished elephant can be used as a pincushion, a tiny stuffed toy or a show stopping holiday ornament. A complete list of supplies will be emailed to you after you have signed up for the class. This class is part of the Artwaves Fall Conference. Please register through the conference website.
