NC Quilt Symposium

Durham Orange Quilters Guild Durham

Symposium will be held on May 18th to 21st at William Peace University in Raleigh, NC. William Peace University is an ideal location! The campus is compact and easy to navigate. Moving in is easy, and getting to your classes, the quilt show, the vendor mall, meals, and evening activities, a breeze. Building friendships is one of our goals. At Symposium, you get to know other quilters from your own guild, other guilds, and even other states. Many quilters return to Symposium every year to renew these friendships. One group even has Symposium as their annual reunion! Why not ask a few friends to join you? Half the fun is the laughs you will share as you purchase “one more piece of fabric you NEED” or share what you learned that day in class. We have arranged a faculty of excellent teachers who have a wide variety of techniques to share. Symposium is a great opportunity to try new things or to work on techniques to improve your skills. You will want to carefully review all the offerings and make your choices early to ensure a spot in the classes of your choice. A full-time student can take 12 hours [read more...]

Artist In Residence: Art from Architecture at HHM

Hennepin History Museum 2303 3rd Ave S, minneapolis

On Thursday evenings in May and June, I will be working at the Hennepin History Museum. I am going to create an original fabric design based on some architectural elements of the building. If you look up at side of the Hennepin History Museum building, there are beautiful carved stone medallions with floral motifs. I am going to recreate those in recycled paper (including some old Hennepin History magazines) to make three paper collages. I will scan and transform these into a repeating pattern that can be printed on fabric and will be available later in the summer in the HHM giftshop. The museum is open late on Thursday nights and you can stop in to see the amazing exhibits and see me making art. Free with museum admission.
