I will be doing demos in the Creative Activities Building at the MN State Fair. Look for the Weavers Guild of MN in the demo area in the center of the building.
From laser-cut bamboo to digital fabric design to die-cut wallpaper, artist Becka Rahn presents a show-and-tell of more than a dozen ways she incorporates technology into her textile designs. Get inspired by technology available in the iLab makerspace and beyond, and think about new ways you can add it to your own art.
My work will be on display during the month of October at the Smallest Museum in St Paul, located just outside Workhorse Coffee Bar. These butterflies are made from origami-folded wrapping paper. The patterns on the paper were created from photos I took while standing on the sidewalk in front of the Smallest Museum in St Paul. I shot photos of everyday things: a light rail train, traffic signs, and brick patterns on buildings. Each photo was transformed into a repeating symmetrical pattern, printed on paper and folded into a butterfly, showing the art you can find in unexpected places. You can see all of the original photos, watch video of folding the butterflies and read more about the art at: www.beckarahn.com/i-spy-butterflies
