My new purse. Inspired by this pattern and another similar vintage Simplicity pattern I scored at a TC garage sale, although I changed a bunch of things as I went because I like my way better. Made from a piece of vintage canvas from last year’s garage sale stash, vintage trim from the thrift store and lined with a piece of batik fabric which is dark green and brown. Magnetic snap, one interior pocket. Strap is lined with cotton webbing, so it’s super sturdy.
I think I am finally going to break down and try to make some of these for a couple of local shops. I have been asked before and I think maybe it’s time. I am going to do all vintage and retro-style fabrics. I made this one up in about an hour and a half, tweaking the pattern as I went. How much do you think I should price them at?
I like….though I never seem to carry a “purse” smaller that a diaper bag anymore :)……as for pricing…that’s tricky purses are funny things that people will either be like me and wait for clearance sales or spend mucho buckos on.
Yup. I agree. There doesn’t seem to be one good price.
Price can depend on a bunch of things. Are the stores buying them outright (wholesale) or taking them on consignment where they get a percentage? Do you typically pay yourself a set hourly wage? What are similar bags going for in the area you are looking to sell them? (A good guideline if they are made in the USA, but needs to be upped if they are made overseas. Usually.) And sometimes you just need to throw a price on something and see if it sells. ;) If they sell really, really fast, you may be underselling yourself. You do beautiful work, and I think your prices on Etsy are MORE than reasonable!
BTW: 2 hours to make that lovely bag?! I’m jealous — not sure I can whip one out that fast.
