My neighbors have a new baby girl, so I dug in to my stash and pulled out this lovely hot pink/red hand-dyed skein of wool/cotton and knit up a Gnomey Hat.

Knowing that I dyed this yarn probably about 5 years ago, I thought I should wash this and block it and make sure no extra dye came out.  Yipes.  So glad I did.  I have emptied about 5 sinks full of pink water and the dye is still coming out.  AArghh.  I knew I had learned a lot about dyeing wool in the last year or two, but this is sad.   So I had to share.  I am going to try one of those “color catcher” things and I am tempted to dunk it in some vinegar and steam it again to see if that helps.  It’s a truly adorable hat, so I am hoping that I can rescue it.
