Since I presented two seminar sessions at the recent Minnesota Quilters Conference, I got to have a piece in the Faculty section of the exhibition hall. This is “Read & Red” and is another interactive QR code art piece. This time, instead of zapping you off to a website, the QR code in this piece contains a secret message and the whole thing is a bit of a pun. Unfortunately, in the location where this was hanging at the show, there just wasn’t enough light for the QR code to read properly. At least I couldn’t get it to work on my phone, I am not sure if it worked for anyone else. Sigh. So I thought I would post it here and you can try it out. Here is the artwork, in a nice crisp digital format as I don’t think it will work from the photo.
I did some hand quilting, which you can see here a little bit, but mostly it was machine stitched. All of the colored fabrics are digitally printed on my home printer. The reds aren’t as vibrant as I was hoping. I would rather have ordered Spoonflower fabric, but I didn’t know I could have a quilt in the exhibition until just a few days before it was due, so I was working a little quickly.
(I will post the secret message in the comments in case you don’t have a smart phone and want to know what it says.)
The secret message:
“Why the fact is, you see, Miss, this here ought to have been a RED rose-tree, and we put a white one in by mistake; and if the Queen was to find it out, we should all have our heads cut off, you know.” – Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
Oh, child of mine, what will you think of next?
How cool! I have a Droid Incredible with QR Droid app. Read the image on the computer screen quickly and displayed your clever message. Loved your Mom’s comment!
Wish you were going to be down here for the last shuttle launch next week.
We wish we could be there too! We will be watching on NasaTV.
Awesome! Love the pun, the title, and concept. Great execution. Ahem.
Neat! That worked just fine on my android phone! Never had one that wasn’t just a website — pretty nifty.
Awesome! I am glad it worked for you. :)
